Ikamrakun: The Sledding Song

Ikamrakun

Now that we are in the midst of a ‘heatwave’,   we ought to have something to remind us of the dark winter days of yore. This song was composed in Fairbanks specifically about a particular area of the UAF campus. It was composed by Joel Ataat’ Forbes of Togiak.

The hill next to the Student Recreational Center is not for the faint of heart. It is steep, and after cold days that harden the snow, the hill develops bumps along the way down. This is reflected in this song.

How fun aa aa rrai

With a sled (ow, ow, ow)

First Verse

And where I wonder

Am I about to slide

Next to the SRC, up there

ay’irr’i ii yangai ay’irr’i ii yangai

aarra ii yirr’i ay’irr’i ii yang’a aa ai

How fun aa aa rrai

Second Verse

And where I wonder

Will I dance

Inside RSS, down there

ay’irr’i ii yangai ay’irr’i ii yangai

aarra ii yirr’i ay’irr’i ii yang’a aa ai

How fun aa aa rrai
